A Trip to Popham

splash2

A few days ago we took a boat trip down river to the Atlantic. Our son and his partner joined us for the beautiful day of boating.

The water was calm. The sky was blue. The wind blew just enough to keep us fanned from the warm sun.

The trip to Popham took about an hour depending on how fast or slow we motored. We started on our dock at Merrymeeting Bay and made our way down the Kennebec until the river delivered us to the sea.

My camera clicked wildly as I shot photos of lighthouses, seals, crashing waves, the boys, and my husband. My nose filled with moist salt air. The sun warmed my skin while the breeze cooled it.

We idled and drank in the sights, the sounds, the smells…and then motored home. It was a perfect summer day in Maine.

  1. Loved your descriptions on this expedition! My favorite was the phrase "the river delivered us to the sea." You have brought so many senses to the writing. Your day sounds fabulous!

  3. Oh my, what a wonderful time! I am envious that you have the ocean, & only wish you had added more photos. I like the way you gave us just a hint of the day, what each was doing, a bit of what you saw! It helped carry my imagination onward.

  4. One of my favorite places to be! The smell is what gets me the most! Yummmm....salty spray!
That reminds me that I should pop down to the ocean today just for a quick ankle splash in the middle of my cleaning frenzy.
I'm so glad you are taking time out for family, fun and fotos...days to remember!

  5. Makes me wish I lived on a coast instead of the hot and muggy (and buggy) midwest!
